Michigan Man Charged with Hate Crimes for Attacking African-American Teenager
A white man in Michigan has been charged with a hate crime after harassing and violently attacking 3 black teens in a parking lot. Lee Mouat, 42, approached the three teens after telling bystanders, “these n****** are playing gang music.” The same witness said Mouat had previously exclaimed, “I’ll bash their heads in if they don’t turn [their music] down.” Mouat began harassing the teens in the parking lot, telling them, “this is my beach, n*****.” He proceeded to grab a large bike lock from his car and began swinging it at the teen’s heads and faces. One victim was admitted to a local hospital and was treated for a fractured jaw and multiple broken teeth. Lee Mouat, 42, has been charged with criminal complaint in federal district court for willfully causing bodily injury to an African-American teenager because of the teenager’s race and is facing a maximum of 10 years in prison.
